\u201cI upgraded to business,\u201d he said smugly. \u201cI can\u2019t deal with you and the kid right now. I NEED some peace and quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My blood boiled. There I was, stuck in economy with a screaming toddler, diaper bags, and no help \u2014 while John stretched out in luxury up front. Passengers around me looked sympathetic, but he didn\u2019t even glance back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I didn\u2019t cause a scene when we landed. Instead, I waited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A few days into our stay at his parents\u2019 house, karma came fast. At dinner, his father asked how the flight was. Before I could even answer, our little one piped up in toddler honesty:

The whole table froze. John\u2019s mom looked horrified. His father\u2019s face darkened. \u201cYou left your wife and baby? For business class?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
John went pale as a ghost. He stammered, trying to excuse himself, but his parents weren\u2019t having it. For the rest of the trip, they made him carry every bag, handle every tantrum, and they even made him sleep on the pull-out couch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
