Instead of going into a rehearsed pitch about ink quality, comfort grip, or durability, I decided to take a different approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I looked down at the expensive marker I was holding in my hand and said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cYou know what? This pen is worthless\u2026 unless <em>you<\/em> need it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The room went quiet. I continued:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cIf you\u2019ve already got a drawer full of pens, this one doesn\u2019t matter. But let\u2019s say you\u2019re sitting in front of a contract worth millions, and you realize you\u2019ve got nothing to sign it with. Suddenly, this pen becomes priceless. Sales isn\u2019t about the product\u2014it\u2019s about understanding the customer\u2019s needs at the right time.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The panel exchanged glances, and one of them smiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That day, I learned something important: confidence and perspective matter far more than a perfect sales pitch.
