Our new neighbor had been upset about parking since the day we moved in. She believed there should only be one car per house on our street, even though there were no such rules in place. Her eyes went wide. \u201cWhat?! What do you mean?\u201d I pointed to the special permit tag on our car, the one she clearly hadn\u2019t noticed. \u201cThat tag means our cars are part of a government program for classic and specialty vehicles. Illegally towing them comes with massive fines and automatic penalties. The towing company already knows they\u2019re in the wrong, which means they\u2019ll pass the cost straight to you\u2014the one who reported it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The color drained from her face as she stammered, \u201cI-I didn\u2019t know\u2026\u201d \u201cWell,\u201d I said, grinning, \u201cmaybe next time you\u2019ll think twice before trying to make up your own rules.\u201d The tow trucks unhooked our cars and drove off. As for our neighbor, she never brought up parking again. In fact, she avoids eye contact whenever she sees us now.
