FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said Monday that investigators are examining whether Charlie Kirk\u2019s accused assassin acted alone or was part of a broader plot. He noted evidence suggesting the suspect may have been \u201cconsumed\u201d by ideology in the lead-up to the shooting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on Fox News\u2019 America\u2019s Newsroom<\/em>, Bongino explained that while one suspect is in custody, the bureau is also \u201clooking into\u201d potential accomplices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIf this was a larger effort, if there was any aiding and abetting\u2014whether financial or someone who knew the specifics and failed to report it\u2014we\u2019re looking into that,\u201d he told Bill Hemmer. \u201cThere\u2019s not going to be a stone left unturned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Investigators are reviewing footage showing the gunman leaping from a rooftop after firing the fatal shot. Bongino said the video was instrumental in helping the bureau crack the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhen you\u2019re watching the video, it appears the gun is either in the backpack or on him,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is where we got a significant portion of the forensic evidence, which was the key piece of information that cracked this thing open.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n He confirmed reports that the suspect had voiced violent intentions before the attack. \u201cYou see this a lot in targeted violence cases, assassinations, school shootings\u2014where the individual expresses in advance his desire to do these things,\u201d Bongino said. \u201cThat appears to be the case here as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Family members and coworkers told investigators the suspect had become increasingly political and withdrawn in the weeks leading up to the Sept. 10 assassination of 31-year-old Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt appears from the data we\u2019ve accumulated that this ideology had infected him and taken over,\u201d Bongino said. \u201cHe was intent on making Charlie his target, and people may have known in advance.
