His passing was confirmed by the Charlotte Chess Center in North Carolina, where he served as head coach and inspired countless students. The center called him \u201ca talented chess player, educator, and beloved member of the chess community.\u201d No cause of death has been released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To millions, Naroditsky was more than a grandmaster. Known affectionately as \u201cDanya,\u201d he brought warmth and humor to YouTube and Twitch, turning late-night chess streams into lessons filled with joy. His calm explanations and deep insight made even complex positions come alive for fans around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe loved streaming, and he loved trying to be educational,\u201d said fellow grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura. \u201cThe chess world is very grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in San Mateo, California, in 1995 to Jewish immigrant parents, Naroditsky first learned chess from his older brother, Alan. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t love at first sight,\u201d he told&nbsp;<em>The New York Times,<\/em>&nbsp;\u201cbut a gradual process.\u201d That gradual passion soon became genius. By nine, he was America\u2019s top player in his age group; at eleven, he won the World Youth Championship (U12) in Turkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By eighteen, Naroditsky had earned the grandmaster title and published&nbsp;<em>Mastering Positional Chess,<\/em>&nbsp;one of the most respected instructional books of its kind. After graduating from Stanford University in 2019, he moved to Charlotte to focus on teaching full-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ranked among the top 200 players globally, he was also a powerhouse in blitz and bullet formats, winning the 2024 U.S. Blitz Championship with a perfect 14\u20130 score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet those who knew him say his greatest gift was kindness \u2014 the rare ability to make chess feel deeply human.
