My 4-year-old daughter Adeline had spent months in a pediatric oncology ward battling cancer.

One nurse, Josh, had become her favorite person. He always spoke gently to her, remembered the little things she loved, and made her smile even on the hardest days.

Days earlier, Adeline had told Josh about a fairytale where a princess was surrounded by flowers and celebrated like royalty.

She had quietly told him she was afraid she’d never have a happy future because she was sick.

Josh couldn’t forget her words.

With the hospital’s permission, nurses, therapists, volunteers, and staff secretly planned an entire fairytale celebration just for her.

Then Josh knelt beside her and presented her with a tiny pink flower ring.

“I promised I’d help make your fairytale come true,” he told her.

The entire room erupted in applause.

For one hour, Adeline wasn’t a cancer patient.

She was simply a four-year-old princess living inside her favorite fairytale.

Months later, as Adeline prepared to spend more time at home, I gave Josh a card.

It asked him to become her godfather.

He accepted through tears.

Cancer had taken so much from my little girl.
