Later, I got a furious text from her:
“Was that really necessary? He’s been crying all afternoon!”

So I replied:
“I’m sorry, I thought he was just being a kid. You said I was overreacting, remember?”

She didn’t respond.

But let me tell you what actually happened: After weeks of nonstop doorbell-ditching, I finally installed a motion-activated camera. That day, when he rang the bell again and ran off, the camera caught it all. So I calmly walked over, knocked on their door, and politely showed her the footage.

I didn’t yell. I didn’t threaten. I simply asked her to please talk to her son, because I was working night shifts and being woken up repeatedly was affecting my health.

She brushed me off.

So the next time he tried it, I opened the door just in time and said, “Gotcha.”
He froze like a statue, mumbled “sorry,” and bolted home.

Apparently, being caught in the act shattered his entire world and now I’m the villain?

Look—I get it. Kids do dumb things. But when adults refuse to parent and expect others to tolerate it endlessly, don’t be surprised when your kid eventually hears “no.”

And if “no” makes him cry all afternoon…
Maybe it’s time to teach him that actions have consequences.
